The attitude of a 16 year old stuck in a 5 year old body...

I debated a lot about whether or not to put this post on our blog. I even asked a few of you what you thought. But, I decided it was such a learning experience for me that I would share it. Here is what happened. I was making dinner a few nights ago and Sydney asked for a cracker. She wanted a "big" graham cracker-- you know, full size. I gave her the cracker and not even 30 seconds later she dropped it and it broke in half. She brought me the pieces and said, "I can't eat this, I need another one." I said, "No. We are not wasting a perfectly good graham cracker." She started stomping up and down and throwing a fit. I told her to go to her room and she yelled, "No! I don't want to!" So, I helped her to her room :) I put her on her bed and told her to stay there until I came to talk to her. As I walked out (She was still screaming) and shut the door this is what I heard: "Do you want a piece of me? No, I don't think so!" Yeah, I was mad. I must have had the look of death on my face because when I opened her door Syd immediately said, "Just let me say, I am sorry." At that point I was 50% angry and 50% trying to keep the laughter in my head. I took her in the bathroom and washed out her mouth with soap. All the while telling her, "When we say bad things our mouths are dirty and we need to make it clean." She was kicking and screaming the whole time. After the whole ordeal was over, Syd calmed down and sat next to me and said she was sorry. She is such a good little girl and she feels so bad when she does something bad. I don't know if I handled the situation correctly, but I did the best I could. Oh, just a note of interest. Brian figured out where Syd got her little saying from, The Bee Movie. The tennis playing boyfriend says it. I don't know how she takes phrases and then uses them in the correct context. It is horribly smart!

I apologize for laughing, but that was hilarious! I even got jay to read it. Ellie throws fits about the same. I am so glad mine isn't the only one!

I can't believe how well you handled it. I'm afraid I'm not so good at disciplining these days...oh, I just feel so inadequate. Our Sydney throws the same type of fits, too, and she's a year younger!

I am glad I am not the only one who uses soap to wash out potty mouths. I think I picked it up from the 'Christmas Story' and personal experience when I was a child. I love how Sydney is so smart. Got to love these 4 year olds.
